The real reason behind SRK, Farah spat

There was a time when Farah Khan couldn't even think of working with anyone but SRK; cut to 2010, the choreographer-turned-director is happy with her decision to not cast Shah Rukh Khan in Tees Maar Khan. But one wonders, what prompted her to take the decision. The Om Shanti Om filmmaker reveals in an interview with Mid Day that she wanted to change the misconception that her films work only because of SRK.
SRK-FarahShe tells Mid Day, "For whatever reason, a lot of credit for my films used to be given to the fact that Shah Rukh acted in them. A lot of people in the industry want to pull you down, and they always said, 'Oh, her films run because he's in it.' But I want to tell them that Shah Rukh was in many movies that didn't run. So this time, good, bad, ugly... whatever, it is going to be my movie."
Farah knew the consequences of her decision. Her friendship with Shah Rukh suffered a setback. Moreover, it was very tough for her to take that decision.
"Yes, it was very difficult. Very tough in the sense that it was an emotional decision. But in all other ways it was the right one. I knew that it was going to rock the boat and I could've just stayed in that position but there were too many things happening that maybe, I didn't like at that time and my decision was a reaction to that. And if I hadn't done this, maybe the boat would not have rocked but I would not have felt good about myself."
Farah felt that SRK reacted more than she thought he would.
She adds, "I had to take this decision. I think more than anything, he also reacted radically to my decision. There also, things went a little haywire. He reacted more than I thought he would when I told him that I was starting my film with another hero."
The director is however hopeful that things might go back to being normal.
She says, "There is nothing permanent here, I have realised that. And even now when I meet him which hasn't happened in the last six months things were normal, as if nothing was wrong. We met at the hospital, where we'd both gone to visit Bobby Chawla."

Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan hug it out at a party

Mumbai: With the year coming to a close, Bollywood bigwigs are on a patch-up spree. And it’s Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, who have hugged and patched up. The two actors, who had a very public fall out over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’, had a private patch up at Salman’s brother Sohail`s birthday bash. The two actors shared warm vibes and decided to let go of their enmity as they stunned everyone present with their friendly gestures for one another.

As per sources, the two stars hugged and also spent some good time together. Confirming the news a source told a daily, "Hrithik walked in and met Sohail at the gate. Then he entered the bash. That`s when he came face to face with Salman. Salman immediately went up to Hrithik and hugged him. After that he took Hrithik at a corner and both of them had a long chat, probably clearing the air about the comments that Salman made about ‘Guzaarish’.”

It seems the two stars acted as matured adults than warring boys. “After that Salman dragged Hrithik to the bar and made a drink for him. Both of them were seen smiling and hugging each other. Hrithik wanted to leave early. However Salman didn`t allow him to leave and all of them were seen chilling in a group," adds the source.

The source further said, `This shows that Salman has a big heart and Hrithik was also cool about the whole thing. Both of them have immense respect for each other. They let bygones be bygones."

'I found Tees Maar Khan very difficult to watch'

A scene from Tees Maar Khan
"Farah Khan has three kids but when it comes to work she has the stamina of 10 men," says Akshay Kumar discussing his first film with the director whose earlier films Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Naa were made for actor and producer Shah Rukh Khan featuring him in the lead.
Tees Maar Khan, the first Farah and Akshay collaboration, is co-produced by the star with UTV's Ronnie Screwvala and others will be released on December 24.
"We shot much of our film in the dust-blown villages. The days were really hot and humid, at times unbearably so," Akshay, who is promoting the film in New York, Toronto and several cities says speaking from his hotel room in New York.
"After giving my shots, I would go into my air-conditioned trailer and from there I could watch Farah continue to work oblivious to the weather, working with other artists and getting ready for another stint."

Shah Rukh Khan too features in leaked US embassy cable

Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan and the threat by the Shiv Sena to ban screenings of his film "My Name is Khan" found mention in a US embassy cable that was leaked by WikiLeaks.

"My Name is Khan" is a 2010 movie made by Karan Johar in which Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol played the lead roles.

"The Shiv Sena had threatened to ban screenings of Shah Rukh Khan`s upcoming movie, `My Name is Khan`, because Shah Rukh Khan publicly lamented the absence of Pakistani cricket players in India`s professional cricket league for the coming season," says the cable dated Feb 22, 2010.

The cable posted in the Guardian newspaper said that Shiv Sena goons burnt posters of the movie and protested in front of his home, asking Khan to "move to Pakistan".

"Khan himself did not bid on any Pakistani players as co-owner of one of the frachises," it said.

While some theatre owners refrained from screening the film on its opening day due to security concerns, "a show of force by the police convinced theatres to roll out a full release" the next day.

"With protests and controversy generating far more international buzz than the typical Bollywood movie, Khan`s new movie opened to packed audiences in Mumbai and elsewhere," it added.

Sonakshi's fake bikini pic upsets Salman

Sonakshi SinhaSonakshi Sinha has always maintained she won't be seen in revealing clothes in her films.

I had sex with Shrien Dewani'

'I had sex with Shrien Dewani'
London: A 39-year-old German man, working as an escort, has said he had kinky sex with Indian-origin Briton Shrien Dewani, accused of murdering his newly-married wife in a carjacking incident in Cape Town.
The escort, from Munich, told the Metropolitan Police's special crime directorate that the British tycoon paid him a total of 1,100 pounds in cash for kinky sex sessions in the Midlands and West London between September 2009 and April 2010, The Sun reported on Wednesday.
Shrien Dewani, 30, a businessman from Bristol, is accused of organising his bride Anni's death during their honeymoon.
Anni, a 28-year-old engineering graduate of Ugandan-Indian descent from Sweden, was killed in Cape Town on November 13 when two men hijacked the car she and Shrien were travelling in. Shrien was let go by the attackers.
Dewani allegedly offered a taxi driver 1,400 pounds to arrange for Anni to be shot dead in a staged carjacking, according to claims outlined by a prosecutor in South Africa.
The German escort from Munich reportedly contacted British police after recognising Shrien Dewani's picture on television news bulletins.
Dewani, who is on bail while fighting extradition to South Africa, insists he is not gay and that he was blissfully happy with his bride of just two weeks.
A lawyer for Dewani said the allegations were completely 'false and ridiculous'.
His spokesman, publicist Max Clifford, said: "It is categorically denied. Shrien Dewani has never had a sexual relationship with a man in his life."
South African police raised concerns that all was not well in the Dewanis' marriage - and that Shrien's sexuality was a factor. But in an interview with The Sun, Dewani denied being gay.

Angelina Jolie can never have a bath in peace

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in Columbia Pictures' 'The Tourist.'
Angelina Jolie can never have a bath in peace.
The ‘Tourist’ actress – who raises six children, Maddox, nine, Pax, six, Zahara, five, Shiloh, four and two-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne with partner Brad Pitt – is amazed at how well she copes having such limited time alone as she has always preferred her own company.
She said: "You try to take a bath alone and everybody comes in.
"You just give it up. I've shocked myself because I'm somebody that likes to be on my own. But I'm surprised how much I'm very happy to be surrounded by everybody in my family.
"It's alright. I feel that comfort."
Earlier this year, Angelina admitted she rarely has time alone but knows it is the same for every parent.
Describing a typical day, she said: "I wake up. I've got four kids in bed with me and Brad is on the phone and with the twins.
"I just don't get any solitude - most people with kids don't. Sometimes you get a bath or a shower but usually somebody is trying to get in. You get used to it."
However, the 35-year-old beauty explained that support from actor Brad helped her to keep everything under control.
She added at the time: "Brad and I take turns - like now, he's working so I'm home with the kids and then in four months I'll be itching to do something. It does balance itself out mainly because I have an extraordinary partner who gives me that time."

The wedding planner is here

Delhi musings Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh in 'Band Baaja Baaraat'
First came the news that Yash Raj was moving out of its comfort zone by launching a newcomer in Band Baaja Baaraat and then the rumours that Ranveer Singh bagged the role only because the film was funded by his father. Ranveer Singh says he was hurt and angry with the reports. “I was hurt because I have made it on my own. I worked for a year assisting Shaad Ali with his ad films and making contacts. I then got my portfolio done and went and met any producer or director who was willing to give me an appointment, telling them that I was eager to act. Such reports embarrass Yash Raj Films. This banner doesn't need anyone else's money to make films,” says the actor, talking to us in an interview ahead of the film's release on December 10.
Ranveer doesn't hail from a film family and like many media students, went to the US to pursue higher studies. “I was studying telecommunication and media studies at the Indiana University. I then studied theatre and took up acting classes, levels 1 to 6. During my second year, I went on stage and performed. I felt ‘this is it',” he says.
Getting a toehold in the industry was easier said than done. Though he considered training himself as a director initially, assisting Shaad Ali opened a new window. “The first day on the sets, when I spotted the camera focussing on the actor, I felt that is where I needed to be — in the spot light.”
The breakthrough came through a casting director friend, Shanu Sharma, who worked with Yash Raj. “She suggested my name to Adi (Aditya Chopra). I was lucky that Adi liked my work in the first audition,” says Ranveer. In Band Baaja Baaraat, directed by debut director Maneesh Sharma, Ranveer plays Bittoo. “Anushka Sharma and I are wedding planners. She is a focussed girl and I am the one who meanders through without an aim in life.”
As is the norm in Yash Raj Films, Ranveer also has a three-film contract with Yash Raj Films. “But I will be free to sign other productions after the release of my first film,” says Ranveer. On a parting note, he says, “I have seen Band Baaja… more than once and objectively I can state that it is a quality product. Maneesh knows his craft well and it is remarkable to think that this is his debut film.”

'I lost interest in Bigg Boss after it became dirty'

The actor openly admitted that he is happy to be evicted from the reality show as it was getting 'dirtier'.

Manoj, who is popular in Uttar Pradesh, also expressed surprise that actor Ashmit Patel  got more votes than him. Rajul Hegde finds out more.

You said you were relieved to be out of the house yet you looked very upset and irritated when you left...

I was upset because Shweta Tiwari and Samir Soni knew that Ashmit was bitching about me. I considered them as my friends but they didn't think that it's important to tell me. Plus, Shweta believed whatever they told her about me. She has known me for four years yet she didn't even bother to come and check with me first. She simply stopped talking to me. I was frustrated about the whole thing so I was bit harsh towards her when I left the house. I could have been more patient, I am really sorry for my behaviour. But I'll apologise to her when she comes out.

Were you shocked when you got to know that Seema Parihar was the one who nominated you?

Yes. Seema was very warm and loving towards me throughout the show. She was like my sister and I didn't expect her to nominate me. I was under the impression that either Shweta or Sameer would have nominated me. I discussed this with Seema the whole week but she never gave me any indication that she would nominate me. I am still trying to forget, and to forgive her.

Were you confident that you would not get evicted?

Arbaaz Khan  tweeted and asked people to vote for Ashmit. I felt little bad about this because his brother is the host of the show and he is asking people to vote. I somehow didn't understand that angle.

So do you think the votes are manipulated?

I am bound by my contract so I can't comment on this. But it is little hard to believe that I got lesser votes than Ashmit. I guess viewers enjoy watching Veena Malik–Ashmit's fake romance. I really don't understand why the channel is still keeoing them inside the house.
Are you disappointed that you didn't last till the end?
Not at all! My aim was not to win or last till the end. I lost interest after the sixth week because it became dirty and I wanted to go out voluntarily. Personally I am not a proud person but I tried to show that I am (proud) so that I could get nominated for eviction. But somehow I managed to stay till the ninth week.
Your marriage is going through a rough patch. You told Shweta in the house that your wife suspected that you and she had an affair. Do you think that will be sorted out now?
My wife is angry with me. I am sure she has watched the episodes. I will try my best to make things better between us.
You are a popular in Bhojpuri film industry. So what made you take part in Bigg Boss?
I was curious about the house. Also, I am popular in certain regions but I wanted the entire nation to know about me. So I thought Bigg Boss was the right platform to get noticed. Initially I was very excited to be in the house but after a few days I started to rethink my decision to be in the show. But I couldn't get out as I was totally trapped.
Will you stay in touch with all the Bigg Boss housemates after they come out?
I really don't know whether its worth to stay in touch with all of them.

Miffed Sonam Kapoor slams critics

If you thought Sonam Kapoor was happy being just another pretty face in Bollywood, think again. The Aisha girl doesn't take criticism too kindly, even when it comes from her own fraternity.

The actress has gone into attack mode after her I Hate Luv Storys co-star Imran Khan reportedly said that she should "do more movies, less magazine covers" on the TV show Koffee With Karan. According to Sonam, she has never gone overboard with fashion shoots, doing as many, or as few covers as other actresses. However her pictures seem to have a bigger impact, she claimed.

Sonam didn't mince words when it came to expressing her displeasure over Imran's remarks. "Imran is really sweet and I like him, but I can't take someone so wet behind the ears seriously. He still has a lot to do before he makes statements like that," she was quoted as saying in a recent interview.

Imran is not the only co-star who has taken a dig at Sonam. Abhay Deol, who acted opposite her in Aisha, also went public with his feeling that too much time and effort was wasted in styling the wardrobe for the film. "I won't take chances with films like Aisha anymore," he said.

But Sonam refuses to concede ground to her detractors. If stalwarts like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra consider her good enough to be in their films, then there is no cause for anyone to doubt her credentials as an actress, she says.

Her list of current projects is certainly impressive. While she is shooting for Pankaj Kapur's Mausam with Shahid Kapoor, she will also be seen in Anees Bazmee's Thank You with Akshay Kumar and Abbas-Mustan's Players starring Abhishek Bachchan.
