The three advocates who were on hunger strike at the High Court since Monday afternoon called off the agitation following an agreement with the State government.
The Cabinet sub committee comprising J. Geeta Reddy, M. Venkata Ramana Rao and P. Ramachandra Reddy visited the Gandhi Hospital to offer them juice to mark the withdrawal of the fast.
The advocates – S. Satyam Reddy, convenor of joint action committee (JAC) of Telangana advocates, G. Jyothi Kiran and M. Vijay Kumar Goud – were shifted to hospital from the High Court in the small hours of Friday.
They refused to accept food though they were administered intravenous drips and underwent check-up.
The JAC also withdrew its call for ‘Chalo Secretariat' by advocates on Monday following the understanding.
A breakthrough was achieved over the demands of the Telangana advocates on Saturday night when the government offered an assurance to the Telangana Advocates' Joint Action Committee to ensure “equitable representation” to the candidates of the region in appointments of law officers in the High Court and tribunals, within three weeks.
The stalemate was broken after a meeting lasting four hours at the Secretariat between the Cabinet sub committee headed by Information Minister J. Geeta Reddy and the TAJAC representatives led by convenor M. Rajender Reddy.
The Group's other members — Ministers M. Venkata Ramana Rao (Courts & Justice) and P. Ramachandra Reddy (Forests) — who did not turn up for the earlier round of talks held on Friday, were present along with Madhu Yashki, G. Vivekanand, both Congress MPs, and S. Indrasena Reddy, MLC.
The agreement signed by the three Ministers and JAC leaders also assured that justice would be ensured to all sections and due consideration given to advocates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, minorities and women.
