Fire broke out in timber factory; none injured

Kanpur, Jul 31 (PTI) A fire broke out today in a timber godown destroying plywood worth lakhs of rupees in Jhakarkati area, police said today. The fire broke out in Omkarnath and Sons Timber Factory and Godown in the wee hours this morning, a police spokesman said.

It took more than four hours by a dozen fire brigades to douse the flames, he said. No one was, however, injured in the incident.

The reason behind the fire is not known yet, he said.
Shillong, July 31 (PTI) Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary today expressed concern over the rising crime against women in the tribal matrilineal Khasi community of Meghalaya, where women are held in high esteem. Mooshahary said statistics revealed a rising trend of rape cases and molestations against women in the state and the problem had become a matter of concern to the authorities.
